Mystic ‘White’ Traditional Globe Pedestal Light With Photocell
Decorative Dusk To Dawn White Globe Pedestal Light
The Mystic Pedestal Light with photocell is an unusual looking Globe shaped lantern with dusk to dawn technology, ideal for use on walls, gate posts and other raised surfaces. It has a white globe, and a matt black frame, which surrounds the lower half of the Globe, and hexagonal base. The Globe itself is an extremely robust and vandal resistant polycarbonate diffuser. It is secured into the external frame by three stainless steel screws.
The frame is made from rust proof Aluminium which is chromate treated prior to painting. This prevents the Aluminium oxidising and the paint then flaking off, as it may do with fittings which have not been treated. 3 Year Guarantee.
The built in photocell, also known as a dusk til dawn sensor, provides added security to a home or building, automatically switching the lamp on at dusk and off again at dawn. This will make it look as though somebody is home every night, whether they are or not, prevent intruders targetting the property as they will be spotted, and also save energy by switching itself off when enough light is detected and electric light is no longer required.

Not only this but the lamp will also last up to 30,000 hours (over 5 years), whereas a standard incandescent commonly lasts for only 1000 hours.
“Dusk To Dawn” Or” Photocell” Lighting
What is a “dusk to dawn” or “Photocell” light? A photocell is a light sensitive electronic switch. In simple terms it senses the brightness of light, and at Dusk when the light level reduces it switches the light on, and at Dawn when the light level increases again it switches the light off. Hence it does away with the need for a timer, and it means that no energy is wasted by lights being on in daylight.
There is normally a delay of several seconds built into the photocells to stop then turning off and on in error, for example, a passing car headlight could turn them on if the photocell were to react instantly.
A Photocell can be a stand alone device but it is simpler and more cost effective to build them into the light itself. All Lumena Photocell dusk to dawn lights have a built in photocell.
The siting of the photocell or dusk to dawn switch is important for if it is in direct line of the light emitted from the lantern, then it can be “fooled” into sensing that the light from the lantern is in fact dawn, and therefore switches the lantern off. The photocell lantern will then turn on again as it is still dark and so the cycle can go on with the light switching off and on at regular intervals. This is why the actual photocell unit is almost always positioned an adequate distance away from where the light shines directly.
